Operating systems for digital futureware

The Data Layer prepares organisations for the third wave of digital technologies, using data as a tool to remove friction from today’s connected digital ecosystems. Working to build shared data, distributed authority and better value distribution across the supply and demand side of businesses ranging from real-estate to sports management.

About us.

When I founded this business in 2014 it was to help companies drowning under fragmented digital identities and runaway marketing data. Now, we find ourselves at another digital crossroads.

There is a crisis of digital friction, fulled by bloated data layers and isolated applications. Cloud has reduced overhead but feeds data volume. AI promises to automate but will amplify latent inefficiency, piling on tools and apps that led us here in the first place.

Instead, I call on you to take a counterintuitive step — collaborate with your industry neighbours to reduce needless intersections. I know, competing is ingrained in us. But the companies who create shared data assets and collaborative digital infrastructure will unlock incredible new value.

By cooperating on our data foundations and digital governance, we can better serve all stakeholders. We can simplify confusing user experiences that plague our society. Most importantly, we can erase the lines of demarcation caused by legacy commercials.

The companies who collaborate to simplify digital and data will transform entire markets. I've seen the seeds of this in our work so far and customers deserve interconnected experiences, not more digital debris. Let's continue this journey to remove friction and clutter at a broader scale. Great things happen when a community comes together for good.

Let's talk.

The proposition

The Challenge

A generation of technical point solutions has created fragmented silos of digital identity and activity causing organisational inefficiencies. Digital friction between application silos is no longer tolerated by customers, suppliers, or colleagues. Typically trapped by legacy commercial structures businesses are struggling to maintain pace with their markets.

The Solution

A collaborative operating system, built in data to connect fragmented data and commercial interest. Move strategy beyond the constraints of a single organisation by understanding networks and data flow across an ecosystem, building new commercial infrastructures to capitalise on emerging technologies. Open the collaborative potential to define the digital economies of tomorrow.

The Offering

  • We build an analytical fence around a market, triangulating activity, identity and technology intersections. This describes inefficiency, user friction and commercial tension at the heart of outputting the case for change

  • Deconstructing and rebuilding an operating system to identify specific changes of contribution, governance, resourcing, ownership or reward.

  • Documenting how a collaborative operating system will deliver value to all parties and document the transitional scenarios.

  • Any transition needs a roadmap that details milestones, responsibilities and redundancies. Output is an operating system to implement over time.
